Everybody Does It

Everybody overuses words or phrases I mean.

I do.  "Stabby," for instance. I also want to punch myself in the throat when I say, "Seriously" because gawd...shut up, Crystal.

However, there are some words and phrases that make you sound like a complete moron (especially when an adult is using them) and you deserve at least a kick in the shin if you use them more than two times in a day.

My list:
Amazing - Especially when you draw out every syllable.  Bonus stupid points for you if it's the only adjective you seem to know.  I'm not alone in my disgust.  http://jaced.com/amazing/

Going Forward - This is mostly used in marketing.  But for some reason, it makes me stabby. (See, no one is perfect.)

Literally - If you don't know what it means, shut the hell up.

Ridiculous - Yes, you are. Now, shut up.

Awesome - (See amazing.)

Whatever - if that's the best argument that you can come up with and you're NOT in middle school, I judge you AND those who spawned you.

That Being Said - This one is for Kayla.  It drives her nuts.

Bro - Pasty white kids from the cornfields sound like dorks when they say this.  Pasty white adults from the cornfields who use this should not be allowed to breed.

Irregardless  - It is not a word. Stop talking now.

Random - Just. Don't.

Again, we all make mistakes, so you're allowed to use the occasional stupid phrase once in awhile (well, except "irregardless,"  there's no three strikes you're out rule for that one.) However, if these words and phrases make up 90% of your vocabulary, I have to wonder if you were dropped on your head from a very high building.  And bounced.

  1. where was "epic" on this list?

Here are words I overuse daily:

Clearly - I love this word so much. When I use it's almost always to point out something that you should know, but CLEARLY do not. And I use it like a knife to stab my point home into your brain. Cause I'm a giver.

Bottom Line - I know it's not a word, it's a phrase, but you had a phrase too! I do NOT love "bottom line" but find myself saying it over and over and over. It's ironic really, if you say bottom line, but then add more and then say bottom line again. . . well ONE of your bottom lines was actually NOT on the bottom. So anyway, I work on that one.

Bang. Done. - I love saying this too. I got it from "The Life and Times of Tim". The "Boss" uses it. He likes it because it makes him look decisive. I do it ironically, but now it's become part of my schtick, so other people do it around me because it makes us all smile.

    1. Oh yes, I have to admit, I use "clearly" a lot too.

However, some of these are acceptable, as long as you're funny when you use them. ;-)

  2. Unfortunately this list is LESS THAN IDEAL because you forgot to use the "word" GINORMOUS.

    1. I also didn't cover "speaking in acronyms." Maybe in a few months, I can do a follow-up post. I have some time on my hands. ;-)

  3. I use most of those words and a few more. Like "Dude". And you still love me. But please don't stab me.

    1. Like I said, we all do it. :-) The most important thing, for me, is that the word is being used correctly. Every single thing my child does is not Ahhh may zing! ;-)

  4. My favorite phrase, I find a use for daily: "Bunch of Bozos". You don't hear that a lot, do you?

Unfortunately I do say lots of the other ones a lot so I'll have to stop talking to you now.

    1. ;-) I do not hear that one a lot, but I can only assume that you're using it correctly, so that lessens the gravity of sin by a factor of 10.

I have not noticed you using those phrases or words in excess, so we're good. ;-)

  5. Guilty: I use amazing and awesome a lot, as well as fabulous. I have a challenge for you: since these words irritate you, can you come up with 3 alternatives that have the same meaning and oomph as each of the adjectives you mention?

  6. I think fabulous is an acceptable substitute for amazing. ;-) As is incredible, outstanding, spectacular, wonderful... I could do on. It just seems like some people use amazing to describe everything. Not everything is amazing. ;-)

  7. I love the word awesome so I'm not giving it up. :-) Especially now that it makes me smile everytime I use it. It's amazing how a word can make you smile just because it makes you think about someone special
